Chapter 1 Beached
With the feel of the waves crashing over my body, I took in a deep breath and began coughing.
"Something is wrong, I should be here." I thought as another wave crashed over me. The sand washing up under my hand tickled me and I began to realize I was breathing air not water.
"What am I doing on land?" I asked the salty wind.
Standing up slowly and that is when the buzzing in my head began. I held my hand to my head to calm the buzzing, and that's when I heard the voice just barely louder than the buzz.
"Sea Foam, are you okay?" Splash, "Can you hear me?" Splash. I knew exactly where the voice was coming from. With the sentences being interrupted by splashes, I Glanced out to the water and saw a Salmon jumping high above the water.
"Yes I am okay," I yelled when it jumped again. Then I watched Leroy swim off. Leroy is my father's personal body guard. He carried me from The Cave of Wishes to the Santa Myra Beach. He is also like a brother to me. After his parents were caught in a fisherman's net, my father raised him. Now he serves my father and watches out for me.
I heard music coming from the pier, I had heard the song over a hundred times when I would come to the serface to watch the humans play, and dance. It always looked like fun. I decided to head for the club and see if those activities were really as fun as they looked. Once I had my barings, I realized my skin was still green and my hair so was my hair.
"This is not what I wished for." I mumbled. Then I noticed my clothes and that they were dry, eventhough I was just lying in the water. Running with excitement, I headed for the stairs.
Once I arrived at the door, the door man removed the rope and said. "Welcome to The Rainbow Room." Then he said, "Nice costume. Have fun."
"Thank you," was all I could say. I was not sure what a costume was.
"Hey are you promoting a new movie! I like the diggs." A very good looking man said as he apporched me.
"Um, no." I said as I dropped my head. I could feel my fangs and knew if he saw them he wouldn' t talk to me. He might even scream or something. I tried to think of what I could say I am that would not scare him.
"I am , uh... trying out for a um... dance team." I lied, while trying to keep my mouth as closed a possible, hoping he does not see my teeth.
"Hey, I won't hurt you." his voice was kind and so was the chuckle that came with the words. "You can look at me when you talk."
"My name is Steve Perez, and who might you be?" he introduced himself. His smile was so handsome, his teeth were so white, they reminded me of the pearls I would find at home. Then I looked into his eyes, they were the color of storm clouds over the deepest part of the ocean.
All I could do was stare, until he cleared his throat. "Oh, sorry." I apologized quickly realizing I hadn't answered as quickly as I should have.
"My name is Sea Foam Ocean." I said. Then I realized he could see my teeth.
I quickly shut my mouth. Steve began to say something then he closed his mouth.
He opened his mouth again and said, "Okay you don't look like any dancer I have ever seen." He said, although he didn't sound upset. "Tell me the truth and I will buy you dinner and a drink."
I was hungery so I took him up on the offer. "I hope you don't scare easy, because my story is one for the books."
